Set of 4 'Strip' chairs designed by Gijs Bakker in 1974 for Castelijn.
The chairs are marked with the original label.
The idea of Gijs Bakker, who was/is very important for the development of Dutch design, was to reduce the complexity of the chair's form until a powerful image remained.
The chairs are made of 6 strips of laminated beechwood 11 cm wide with an ash veneer top layer, linked by dowels. The layers of wood are pressed into a mould with glue and harden in the desired form.
They are nicely stackable.
This Dutch design classic is part of the collection of different musea.
The chairs are in very good original condition. Some normal traces of use, no damages.
