Gio Ponti Set of 4 Superleggera Chairs Cassina Italy 1951-1957

Set of 4 Superleggera (= very light) chairs, model 699. designed by Gio Ponti from 1951-1957 for Cassina Italy.
A modern design icon, and one of the most celebrated designs by the Italian master.
Its name expresses the Milanese architect’s desire to create the lightest chair possible. That took him years to perfect, paring down the triangular section of the legs to only 18 millimeters to reach the actual minimum weight of just 1,700 grams. The result is amazing; so light and yet so strong and comfortable. And besides that the chair is also very elegant. A true master-piece.
These early edition chairs have a solid ash frame and a renewed papercord seat.
The chairs are in very good condition. The frames are in original condition and have a slight patina, no damages.
