Set of 4 armchairs, model D51, designed by Walter Gropius in 1922 and manufactured by Tecta.
Originally he designed the chairs for one of the earliest works of modern architecture: the Fagus Factory in Alfeld, Germany.
Walter Gropius is widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of modern architecture. He was the founder of the famous and influential Bauhaus academy in Dessau.
This set is from around 2000. Also this reissue by Tecta is rarely offered. They are still for sale for about € 1700,- each.
The chairs have a black stained solid ash wood frame and still the original black and white striped Bauhaus fabric. High quality made.
Simple and elegant design with beautiful details like the rounded corners.
The chairs are in very good original condition. The great fabric is still perfect. Only minimal loss of lacquer on the frames.
