Josef Hoffmann Pair of Kubus Lounge Chairs Wittmann Austria 1910/2011
Authentic pair of Kubus lounge chairs, model 8012, designed by the great Josef Hoffmann in 1910.
This particular pair is manufactured by Wittmann Austria in 2011. Both are marked underneath the seat with the original label.
Josef Hoffmann is one of the early modernists who, with his clear design language, was a forerunner of the Bauhaus.
Iconic design featuring geometrical quilted squares of high-quality dark brown leather applied to a beechwood frame having a modern cube form. Supported by square ebonized legs ending with silver half-moon feet.
Its singular design is a result of the recurrent use of geometric squares and cubes. This style was highly valued by Josef Hoffman and was very popular at the time, earning him the nickname of Quadrati-Hoffmann (Square Hoffman). He developed a rational form without curves that was precise to the millimeter.
The chairs are handcrafted and of excellent quality.
Both chairs are in very good original condition. Minimal traces of use.
