Low wooden 'beugelstoel', designed by the great architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld in 1930.
This specific chair is probably made in the 1960s by a highly skilled and enthusiastic DIYer. It is very complicated and difficult to make this bent seat/backrest. That's why you see this model very rarely, in contrary to other models by Gerrit Rietveld, like the Zigzag chair, the Crate chair and the Steltman chair.
The former owner bought the chair in the 1970s at a flea market in Amsterdam.
It is made of red lacquered pine wood and according to the original drawings. The chair is very well made. It is a little chair relatively low to the ground.

The chair is in good original Some lacquer damages and a deep scratch on the top of the backrest.
Gerrit Rietveld designed the original 'beugelstoel' with a steel frame in 1927. Many variations were made, with different back heights and angles, colours, metal coating, armrests, upholstery etc. Then, in 1930, Rietveld experimented with a wooden-framed version. This model was also made in similar variations, this time for domestic projects and not for mass-production.
