Jan Anthonie Snellebrand Custom Made XL Bookcase 1920s
This is for something very special. A large custom made bookcase designed by the famous architect Jan Anthonie Snellebrand in the 1920s.
He designed it for a friend of his in Bergen, Netherlands.
From 1916 till 1946 Jan Anthonie Snellebrand had an architecture studio together with Adolph Eibink and they designed buildings as well as furniture in the style of the 'Amsterdamse School' and the International Art Deco. Later they created their own quirky mix with traditional and modern elements. Much of their preserved furniture is now in the collection of the 'Instituut Collectie Nederland', an institute for the management and preservation of cultural heritage.
The bookcase is designed in a more modernist style. It has 4 chromed metal stands at the front, 5 oak wood shelves with black lacquered wooden front sides and at both sides 4 smaller cromed metal tubes that go through all the shelves. Each shelve is connected at the bottom end to a slat that is fixed to the wall.
Very nice and unique piece.
It is in good condition with some traces of use. Some wear on the upper shelf and some shelves had a few little holes at the rear end for wiring that now are filled, see last picture.
