Charles Rennie Mackintosh Willow Chair Cassina 1904/1970s

Iconic throne chair, model 312 or Willow Chair, designed by the early modernist architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1904.
Originally he designed this chair for the Willow Tea Room in Glasgow, Scotland.
In 1973 Cassina relaunched this model. This particular chair is an early Cassina edition manufactured in the 1970s. It is marked with the Cassina label and it has number 466.
The chair is made of solid black stained ash wood. The seat cushion is newly made and is upholstered with a  Kvadrat Steelcut Trio fabric in a light grey/dark grey mix (90% wool).
In its original configuration, the high, semicircular backrest of this solid wood throne served as a divider between the entrance and the tea room behind it, framing the seat in a complex series of lines and shapes that wholly reflect the geometric and floral style of Mackintosh.
Superior craftsmanship, the various components of the structure are hand-assembled.
A true masterpiece!
The chair is in very good condition. Except for the seat cushion, the chair is fully original. Only little traces of wear. At the backside it has a tiny damage, as visible in the picture.
