Charlotte Perriand Tokyo Chaise Longue Cassina 1940/2011
Fantastic chaise longue designed in 1940 by the great Charlotte Perriand when she stayed in Japan. Between 1940 and 1943 she lived in Japan to devote herself to studying Japanese architecture and culture. Japanese craftsmanship inspired her throughout her whole career. This design was not realized until 2011 when Cassina put it in limited production. This particular chaise longue is an early production. It is marked with the Cassina label and has the number 0162. The design is a variation of the famous LC4 chaise longue she designed earlier for Le Corbusier. This version is made of teak. The seat comprises of twelve curved wooden strips connected to the curved bars below with satin brass studs. The seat mattress and bolster headrest are upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. An exceptional woodworking masterpiece by one of the greatest designers of the 20th century. The chaise longue is in excellent condition. It is hardly used.
