Iconic lounge chair + ottoman, model Up 5+6 or Donna or La Mama, designed in 1969 by Gaetano Pesce for B&B Italia.
The chair is marked underneath with the original B&B label.
This model, part of the Up Series consisting of 7 different models, was relaunched in an updated version in 2000. This particular set is from about 2005.
Shaped like a female torso, the overtly curvaceous Up 5 chair, which he called “Donna,” was inspired by statues of ancient fertility goddesses. An elastic cable connected the seat to a ball-shaped ottoman. Pesce’s provocative ball-and-chain-styled art furniture was commentary on what the designer saw as socoal imprisonment for woman who are mistreated and subjugated all over the world by patriarchal structures.
The chair and ottoman are made of polyurethane and are covered with red elastic fabric.
The fantastic set is in excellent condition. The previous owners hardly used it, it was for them more a beauiful sculpture.
