Gerrit Thomas Rietveld Red & Blue Chair Cassina 1918/1970s
Red & Blue chair designed by the great Gerrit Thomas Rietveld in 1918.
This particular chair is an early edition by Cassina from the 1970s. The chair is marked and numbered 1697.
This iconic design is a lounge chair in the guise of a rationalistic geometric sculpture. A true masterpiece of design, one of the most important examples of neoplasticism promoted by the Dutch De Stijl movement.
The chair has a black lacquered solid beech frame with yellow ends. The seat and backrest are made of birch plywood and lacquered in red and blue. The primary colours are a tribute to Mondriaan and De Stijl.
The chair is in very good original condition. Overall it has a nice patina. Little traces of use on the seat and backrest, some tiny lacquer damages.
