We acquired the chair from a Swiss collector. He had the chair reupholstered in black leather in 2014, also the foam was renewed. After that the chair is hardly used.
The Rover chair is the first piece of furniture Ron Arad designed and launched his career. His unique aesthetic and ability to blend traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology have earned him acclaim.
The chair is a combination of two readymades. A leather seat from a Rover is mounted to a frame made from kee klamp fit steel tubing. The backrest as well as the headrest are adjustable.
According to Ron Arad with his sharp manner and ‘industrial’ approach to design undoubtedly in mind, Marcel Duchamp made everyday objects useless by calling them art. And in immediate contrast, Arad’s work turns the obsolete into objects with a renewed life.
The chair is in good condition. The leather seat is perfect. The frame has wear, as visible in the pictures.
