Willem Penaat Lounge Chair Metz & Co 1935
Very rare modernist lounge chair designed by Willem Penaat in 1935 for Metz & Co, Netherlands.
Metz & Co was the leader in the Netherlands in the field of home furnishings and modern design. They worked with great designers like Gerrit Rietveld, Elmar Berkovich, Bart van der Leck etc. Willem Penaat (1875-1957) worked as a furniture and interior designer for the upscale Metz & Co store for over 25 years
The chair has a geometric shape with an angled backrest. The two runner legs are in solid black stained oak wood. The fabric which is not original anymore, is in beige/ocher yellow.
The chair is also included in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
It is in good condition. The fabric has no damages, but has some traces of wear due to time and usage. The interior of the chair is still original.
