Willem Penaat Desk Metz & Co ca. 1925

Very rare modernist desk designed by Willem Penaat ca. 1925 for Metz & Co.
Metz & Co was the leader in the Netherlands in the field of home furnishings and modern design. They worked with great designers like Gerrit Rietveld, Elmar Berkovich, Bart van der Leck etc.
The desk is made of black-stained oak wood. The bottom of the legs is not stained to create a nice contrast. It has a drawer, 2 shelves on each side and it still has the original brick-red flannel workpad inlay. The drawer has two beautifully sculpted grips in Macassar wood.
The wood has a magnificent patine.
Unique piece, very hard to find.
The desk is in good original condition with traces of use due to time and usage. The flannel inlay has clear signs of use and some damage on the front side. There is a small repair, which is still visible, at the backside of the left leg (last photo).
